Go Green, Vote Blue!

Almost four years ago, President Bush made some pretty heavy claims concerning his administration’s environmental policy. Amidst worries of falling standards and EPA regulations, Bush claimed that he was in fact “a good steward of the land” and that both air and water quality across the country had vastly improved (Borenstein Commondreams.org). But did you know that during the past eight years of the Bush administration “cleanups of toxic waste fell by 52 percent”? Or how about the fact that the “number of beach closings rose by 26 percent” due to polluted waters? Even using Bush logic, it’s hard to see how these figures add up to improved air and water quality! In fact, President Bush and his administration don’t seem to have been concerned with the environment at all, but instead have focused on lowering and/or erasing many regulations and laws to make things easier for big business to operate. In order to benefit these business interests, President Bush has “reversed the government’s course on global warming, power plant emissions” and decreased the power of “environmental law enforcement” (Borenstein Commondreams.org).

However, now is our chance to reverse the devastating course of non-action undertaken by the Bush administration and work together to save our planet! Go Green, Vote Blue! is a new project undertaken by the MUW College Democrats to highlight what we as Democrats can do to help create a greener United States. Whether it is educating voters on the environmental record of Democratic candidates in important coming elections or participating in environmental service projects in our community, MUW College Democrats need your help in ensuring a greener nation! Keep an eye on this page and announcements across campus to see how you can join in the green revolution!
